Primary Purpose of Role Drives for continuous performance improvement of the Packaging Lines. Creates a positive environment for packaging material problem resolution. Positive contributor in team building with NBC Operational team members along with maintenance teams, Marketing and NPD teams. Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities: Be involved in the development and implementation of materials and line designs that NBC proposes to improve and meet performance objectives and cost objectives. Provide expert advice on the identification and capture of major issues affecting, or anticipated to affect operations at NBC. Qualify new vendors seeking to provide packaging materials. Establish strong working relationships with internal customers, marketing, planning, and quality teams. Develop CapEx projects, planning and project management. Evaluate materials and production processes to enhance product development and CI of existing packages for production. Work closely with NPD and Technical Services in the design, quality, and reliability of packages being considered by Marketing Engineers in a core team environment to establish new packaging specifications for product development. Work as part of the maintenance team in troubleshooting and machine alignment when dealing with packaging issues that appear to be material related. Qualifications and Experience: Bachelors Degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Trade or vocational courses or certification a plus. 5-10 years experience in progressively more senior maintenance/engineering positions, with packaging experience in the consumer packaged goods industry. Well developed interpersonal and people leadership skills. Knowledge of relevant standards and legislation. Project management experience. Computer literate (MS Windows applications and ERP system comfortable). Understanding of glass technologies, closure devices, labelling materials and technologies, Capsule and corrugate materials. Team building experience Key Decision Making in this Role: Perform complete product engineering analysis and technology assessments to ensure selected material will achieve first pass approval for production for NPD. Evaluate existing materials for specification adherence and assist in troubleshooting to determine root cause for production failures of packaging materials with production team as well as vendors. Key Challenges in Achieving Goal(s): Implement a positive environment for packaging material problem resolution. Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Marketing and Technical Services on NPD projects. Advise and help guide the NBC Team to make sound capital and maintenance decisions associated to packaging problem resolution and improvements. Assist in developing actions and activities associated with production materials to maintain high plant performance in an environment of strict cost management.
